Libby Bagby visits the Library with her new book

The Summey family listen as Libby Bagby author of "Lucky's Plott"
shares the story of her Plott Hound and her new book.

I listen as Mrs. Bagby talks about her book
and the writing process.

The Plott Hound is the North Carolina State Dog.
Libby Bagby has written an insightful book about
her rescue of an injured Plott Hound.

The Summey family enjoy the one on one visit with
the author of "Lucky's Plott"... Libby Bagby of
Roaring Gap, North Carolina.

A local family was fortunate to be at the Public Library
of Johnston County and Smithfield when Libby Bagby
came to the Library to show me her new book.
I like this book and will use it soon in a Story Time
program at the Library. Thanks Mrs. Bagby for
the visit and taking time to answer our questions.
Thank you

Joyce Mitchell former Director and Friend

Joyce Mitchell, former Library Director
recently visited the Children's Department
and showed me this lovely quilt
which she is making for a family member.
Since Joyce retired
she has been pursuing her hobby of quilting
and her work is wonderful.

Joyce was my first Director and also the person who hired me at the Library back in 1988 to work in the Video Department and promoted me to Circulation in 1990 and promoted me to Children's Librarian Specialist in 1992.
Thank you Joyce, I really love my job.

Jan Brett is a wonderful Children's Author

On Monday November 3, 2008 I had the opportunity to see Jan Brett at Quail Ridge Books in Raleigh. Jan Brett is a popular children's author who has written and illustrated books such as "The Mitten", "The Hat", "The Umbrella", "Daisy Comes Home"," Hedgie's Surprise", "Comet's Nine Lives", "Berlioz the Bear", and now with her newest book
"Gingerbread Friends".
Nancy attended the event with me. We sat and waited for Jan Brett
to come in and while we waited Nancy crocheted this snowflake for Jan Brett.

It was so good to see Jan Brett again. I had attended her book signing for "The Umbrella" several years ago and mentioned to Jan that I had lived in Panama for two years and had seen the Blue Morpho butterfly which Jan drew into her book. She remembered meeting me then and it was good to connect again and see her new book.

In the photo below is Jan Brett drawing the Gingerbread baby from her new book.
That's the Gingerbread Baby on the right and the dog is the Peppermint Dog. As always in the book itself there is a preview of the story in the sidebars of the book. Jan Brett's artwork is exquisite and it was a joy to watch her draw and color this picture as I watched and marveled. She gave interesting artist-type information for the flock of young readers who came to see their favorite author. OK so I am not a young reader but I am a huge fan of Jan Brett.

Jan Brett's bus is parked right in front of Quail Ridge Books and that is Nancy becoming a part of the fanciful scenery.

Nancy and I both enjoyed the author visit and book signing with Jan Brett.
We have both been fans for years.

Author Laura Numeroff

A Black and White Cat is the star of Laura Numeroff's newest book
"If you Give a Cat a Cupcake"
I was able to attend the reading and book signing in October at Quail Ridge Books.
The Cupcake above was used as decor for the book display. I was the fortunate winner in the Raffle of this Cupcake. I'll read the new book in December and have the cupcake on display at the program. Check our December calendar in the Children's Department for the time and date of the "Friends" program.
Laura Numeroff signed two books for me. I enjoyed hearing her read the book.
This new book is a cute story and will be fun to read at the Library to Story Stars and others.
Laura Numeroff is from Brooklyn New York and has written many books, such as
"If you give a Mouse a Cookie"
