Shelby made this lovely Valentine's Gift for Mrs. Elaine and
brought it to the Library today.

It is clear that Mrs. Elaine really likes that Gift.

that Shelby enjoys.

Alex gets a Library Card

Alex is at the Library today with his Mom and his
little friend Ben. Alex is getting his very own library card.

Mrs. Brenda at the Circulation Desk is helping
to fill out the papers for Alex to be a member of
the Public Library of Johnston County and Smithfield.

Alex is very excited because now that he can read his Mom
is ready to get Alex his own Library Card. This is a tradition
that Mom started with Alex's big sister Kayla.

Alex is very proud of his new Library card.

The Answer to all the snow outside could be inside the Library

A fun guessing game

OK so we said it three times
does that mean three snow storms????

Snow really is unusual in Johnston County

It is even a winter wonderland in the hutch

SNOW....is just a word until it falls on your ground.
Nancy thank you for all the great snow displays in the
Children's Department.

Snow, Snow, Snow

One of the Big Stories for January 2009 was the
SNOW.

Now that the little ones know what snow looks like and feels
like it makes it easier to read books to them about
snow and know that they understand what
all that white stuff means.

It was the biggest snow storm in Johnston County in
eight years.

Snow very pretty on the ground but no fun to drive
on the road.

Sara Spear and the Drake Family Quilt

The Drake Family Quilt

Shared with HUH on January 8, 2009 by Sara Spear

HUH members were amazed at the design, beauty and workmanship
of the Drake Family Quilt.

This owl is just a little of the detail of the work
done on the quilt by Emma Catherine Drake from Lexington, Kentucky.
Most of the work on the quilt was done in the 1880's.
A lot of the images on the quilt represent
life in Florida.

Sara Spear the great-granddaughter of Emma Drake
is talking with HUH Groups members and parents.

Festival of Trees at Johnston Medical Mall 2008

Erin Allen works on ornaments for tree.

Erin Allen and Jessie Auge work together to make
the tree lovely.

Tristany Roper adds some wooden pieces to the
HUH tree.

Caitlyn Allen was our guiding light for a color theme
and the use of wooden ornaments. Good thinking.

Abraham Lincoln, We the People Bookshelf

Students attended the K-4th grade H.E.L.P. program
devoted to a study of Abraham Lincoln.

These are a few of the titles that were donated
to the Library by the "We the People Bookshelf".

Abraham Lincoln is one of my favorite Presidents.

H.E.L.P. study of Clara Barton and the Red Cross

The Red Cross Flag was modeled after the Swiss flag.

Clara Barton was a compassionate woman who wanted
to relieve the suffering of others. She expanded the Red Cross
to include serving the needs of those involved
in natural disasters as well as victims of wars.

Some of the books available for the K-4th graders and parents to read
more about Clara Barton and the Red Cross.
